To the Editor:

I will tell you why I, and a bunch of Californians like myself, will not support Gavin Newsom for Governor. He f****d his friends wife. That carries all right in San Francisco. But It doesn't carry so well in much more conservative places. Having an affair, forgivable. F*****g your friends wife, not so much.

Excellent article, Tommi. Richard Nixon was sworn in on TWO bibles. Swear them in, then swear them out! They say that there are no atheists in foxholes, and this is the best argument for atheism I have ever heard.

Right on, Tommi!

I wrote to Change.gov to let them know my "Vision for the Future." Know what it was? An America where people of reason who don\'t ascribe to any religion are not thought to be immoral or untrustworthy simply because they are being rational.

Dear Tommi Avicolli-Mecca:

I too was outraged after reading this article, but for completely different reasons. You claim that Christians don't have the right to bring their religion to an official government function? Your narrow minded and, let's face it, belligerent point of view is doing more to hurt the nation than to help it. I truly believe you have every right to say what you wish, I hope the day never comes that you don't have the right to speak your mind; but in this case you really need to step back and consider this situation.

President-elect Barack Obama is going to stand up and make a promise to a nation, and to the world. He is going to be held by that promise morally, ethically, and legally. That being the case he has every right to swear to us to do his best on whatever grounds he wishes. The man is a Christian and believes in God, an oath to that God is binding to him and he has every right to swear to us as a nation in the name of his God that he will do the best job he can for us. No attorney, no court, and no politician should ever have the right to stop somebody from taking an oath on the things they hold most sacred.

I'll tell you what, when you become President sir I swear to God that I will staunchly support your right to swear to this nation upon thin air and overbearing beliefs, or the lack thereof.

God Bless You Sir,

Jonathan T Nish
