Amy Lee’s appointment as Acting Director of Building Inspection has apparently not ended the San Francisco Chronicle’s decade-long pattern of unfair coverage of the agency. In its July 19 Food section, Chronicle reporter Amanda Berne claims that “last year’s alleged bribery scandal in San Francisco’s DBI may have made getting construction plans approved even harder.” The “ alleged bribery scandal” involved the arrest of a single DBI employee for allegedly taking bribes in his previous job at the Planning Department. The permit processing system at DBI has never been more efficient or accurate---too bad the same cannot be said of the Chronicle’s coverage of the issue.
