To the Editor:

I sent a detailed letter to Rev. Townsend prior to the meeting at Modern Times Books regarding the Mayor's Wi-Fi proposal. Either Townsend didn't read it, or he didn't understand it, or he made no effort to confirm the points made. In any case, Townsend makes a great mistake to support the mayor's current wi-fi plan — in direct disservice to his constituents!

When person X purporting to be concerned for quality of service to group Y, supports a plan to deliver crap to Y — despite being told that something a thousand times better could be delivered to Y instead — then one has to question whether X is actually an advocate for group Y, or an advocate for the PLAN and ignoring the best interests of group Y — the "under-served" the mayor routinely uses to justify his paltry-free wi-fi project.

That is, I allege that either Townsend isn't paying attention, or he has chosen to believe the mayor's false promises despite being overtly warned that the deal is a Trojan horse. Or Townsend is just a shill for the wi-fi project for reasons to be determined.

Townsend was told otherwise. Someone should ask him why he supports the mayor's plan despite a much better solution for the under-served having been put in front of him.

The mayor's plan WILL NOT SERVE the under-served - this has been shown by the plan's opponents. The mayor's plan deserves to fail primarily because it will not fulfill the promises to the under-served that the mayor repeatedly makes. Anyone who advocates for the mayor's plan in supposed behalf of the under-served has to answer for wanting it despite being shown that it will leave the under-served under-served.

Someone needs to hold the mayor's blind advocates' feet to the fire on this issue.
