When we started the "Concerts at the Cadillac" series 5 months ago, one goal -- besides inviting professionals who perform regularly -- was to have local talented Tenderloin residents play, giving them an opportunity to show off on the beautiful piano. Join us this Friday (December 7th) at 3:00 p.m., where our performers will be Maurice Bohannon and James Stuart. James is a veteran street musician, but this concert will be Maurice's first public performance.
An SRO tenant, Maurice has composed over 230 "easy listening" jazz songs on his electric piano. "I play for myself," he said. "I play for what sounds good. I feel that if it feels good for me, it will work for other people." Since coming to San Francisco, Maurice would go practice on the piano at St. Anthony's, where he caught James' attention. A former deejay who has performed at gigs for 20 years (and regularly plays at street corners downtown), James saw that Maurice had talent and potential. He took on Maurice as a student, and helped him make a demo CD. James will be playing showtunes and jazz standards.
The Cadillac Hotel is located at 380 Eddy Street (@ Leavenworth.) Everyone is welcome to attend tomorrow’s performance at 3:00 p.m.
