To the Editor:

I watched with horror last week's debate with the Board of Supervisors over the $273 million proposal on the building of 4 new peaker plants. John Rizzo's article aptly describes the dilemma the City faces.

Supervisor Mirkarimi asked how a city that can defy the spraying for apple moths and the nation's leader in using green technology and alternative energy, could turn around and implement a fossil fuel burning plant. Bitter irony indeed. The PUC, the Mayor, the ISO and the BOS had better get this right, or we will be facing a health crisis of epic proportions.

No other part of the city would allow these plants and the toxic history, particulate matter from trucks and other vehicles in Bayview Hunters Point, makes looking at other alternatives a no brainer.
