Education of a Rake/Berkeley City Club
SHE WAS BIG! Playwright Drollinger says about her: “In Lindsay’s case, it was the paparazzi's flash bulbs that burnt her wings, sending her plummeting.” I think I managed to pick up a few of the feathers.
Hilarious as ‘Project: Lohan’ is she went on a path of nothingness. There were just too many temptations. She couldn’t help herself. Drollinger composed the show from material that he found in magazine articles, interviews and court transcripts. As the playwright says – “I didn’t need to actually write a show – it had already been written!” However, the playwright does emphasis that every word in the play is the actual dialogue. Look it up in the public records. It’s all there.
Lindsay is both a tragedy and an absolutely fabulous musical comedy star. The musical play is torn right from the news. Like blazing headlines, she gives us a fabulous true-to-life-tale told by the actors on the stage. It’s really, really funny – touching and vital. I loved it! It’s one of the most spectacular master class moments of hilarity that you will remember for some time.
Look – here’s the real deal. This show holds no bars. Here is one quote: “they would sleep with just so many people – that’s me!” Here’s another great one: - “another Car accident – just like Princess Di!” As you know – Lindsay was always getting into accidents. Other notables you will remember is a hilarious depiction of ‘Mr. Blackwell” on how to dress. Yes, this is a near perfect musical.
This show sure is lush and lovingly constructed. It teems with authentic atmosphere in this uproarious take on Agents, the endless line of paparazzi and annoying assistants.
D’Arcy Drollinger (in Drag) really shines as Lindsay Lohan in the show. Tracy Ward is the exciting director of the cast of six. They come to life with (89) fascinating characters. You’ve never seen such massive costume changes, along with luscious wigs. And I sure hope that it becomes the big hit that it deserves. Grab it now. It may not come this way again. If you don’t see this production like this – you may not see it anytime or anywhere in your life. “It Sizzles!”
The show is at the Costume Shop at 1117 Market Street – just down the block from the Orpheum Theatre. Runs through Aug. 19.

The EDUCATION of a Rake (Sex and Politics)
A Central Works Method Play –
No need to play Hide and Seek – everything about Sex and Politics will dazzle your eyes and engage your brain in this excellent story written by Williams Bivins. Love, Hate, Conniving, romance, trickery and political intrigue, should be enough to keep you on the edge of your seat.
The provocative Ensemble – Sally Dana, Gabrielle Patacsil and Erick Reid Perform visual miracles. The above named actors play dual roles that are so surprisingly haunting. You’ll see. Every gesture is an erotic urgency.
Not only is this play brilliantly written, but also Jan Zvaifler superbly directs it. The story will haunt you long after it ends.
The Education of a Rake started out as a modern adaptation of Chaucer’s “The Wife of Bath’s Tale, a proto-feminist story about a knight who, as a result of a sexual indiscretion, must go on a journey to discover what women want.” And when you see this Bivins play, you will Grasp what goes on in this hide and seek tale. Bivins says: “Don’t worry – there are still sexual indiscretions aplenty.”
Central Works is now playing at the Berkeley City Club – thru August 26 @ 2315 Durant Avenue. “It’s a Masterpiece!”
