I would just like to thank Randy Shaw for the great article that I read about Mr.Leroy Looper. I feel that I have personally lost a family elder whose wisdom and kindness will sorely be missed. My heart goes out to the Looper family, and I sincerely hope that they will carry on his great legacy.

I am so sorry to hear of Leroy's passing. My best wishes and condolenses to Kathy and the rest of his family. Leroy was a true beneficiary of the Tenderloin who I had the pleasure of working with in the mid 90's. Thank you, Leroy, for your inspiration and challenge that we can all do better. On a more personal level, we had a laugh when we discovered that he was one of those street junkies so prevalent in my High School neighorhood when I was a student. One of my most treasured photos is one I took of the mural of Leroy and Kathy that was just off Turk Street. Goodbye Leroy. You did well.

I am sorry Mr. Shaw, but the constant refrain in the 2003 Mayor's race was Willie Brown's influence over Gavin Newsom and the pull the Getty's had (have) over him. I know the Chronicle, who endorsed Newsom, didn't run a lot of stories to that effect. But as a liberal progressive living in San Francisco in 2003, I enjoyed a great many articles and tough questions regarding Mr. Newsom's ties to the Brown machine. These connections defined that campaign for most people.
