To the Editor…

As a long time resident in the Beverly Grove area of Los Angeles, I am appalled at what is happening to a great neighborhood.  The tearing down of historic, beautiful buildings and putting in “boxes” is a shame and those responsible should be ashamed.  They say they’re rebuilding ‘affordable housing’ apartments and condos.  Really?  Just how many people can afford over $1 million for a condo and an affordable housing apartment building in the neighborhood has 3 bedroom apartments for $3900 per month.  What I want to know is, if this is affordable housing – who are these builders catering to?

You would think that Mr. Jacobs, so-called Chairman of the California Housing and Finance Agency would have more sense and more pride in what LA is instead of just wanting to fill his pockets with dollars at the expense of people who are being kicked out of their homes.  This is nothing but pure self-importance and greed.  Just remember, no matter how many millions you make, when you die, you can not take it with you.

Mr. Jacobs, my advice to you is get a conscience and realize what you’re doing to people.  I bet if you were facing eviction, it would be a whole different ball game.

Appalled and disgusted….
