Subject: An Ode to the Gay Best Friend

I am a gay man, and if anyone referred to me as their ‘gay best friend’, I would consider that a homophobic statement.

Really? How incredibly offensive. I’m glad Ms. Haberman has gay male friends whom she can lean on for support. I’m glad she is an ally to gay men. I’m glad that gay men who are more femme can find places to be themselves and find people who accept them.

I don’t like her pigeon-holing an entire group of people. I don’t like her labeling and stereotyping and using us as an accessory. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being ‘fabulous’, but not all gay men are ‘fabulous’, at least not in the way she thinks we should be.
